The Freedom Summer project organized by the Mississippi
Department of Archives and History, came to Natchez on Thursday, July 25. The
project is titled, “Freedom Summer: 60 Years Later – A Landmarks of American
History Teacher Workshop.” It included about 35 educators and museum
professionals from across the country.
We met at Historic Natchez Foundation, where I was
honored to present a talk on “Freedom Summer in Natchez.” We were joined by
Mayor Dan Gibson, Alderwoman Valencia Hall, and Cater Burns, executive director
of Historic Natchez Foundation.
Our program included a tour of historical sites in Natchez.
