This is the childhood home of Anne Moody.

The childhood home of civil rights pioneer Anne Moody is old, but still standing. The wood-framed bungalow, which appears to retain its historic character, is located in Centreville, Miss., off of Highway 24. Anne mentioned the house and its location in Chapter 4 of her book, Coming of Age in Mississippi:

We stayed at the Johnsons' until the end of the summer. Then one day we moved. Raymond had built the house at the bottom of the Ash Quarters right off Highway 24.

Anne's stepdad built the house with assistance from his brothers. She described it as "a green frame house with a gray front porch." It had five rooms that included a kitchen, three bedrooms, and a living room. It initially had an outdoor toilet and no running water. The area where the house was built is still called Ash Quarters. In 2016, the house sustained water damage from a flood.

Anne's brother, Ralph, has said he was born in the house in 1955. His birth is mentioned in Chapter 9: "But the day before Linda Jean moved, all my plans were upset. Mama had the baby, another boy -- she named him Ralph."
