This Day in Anne Moody History - March 9

On March 9, 1967, Anne Moody married Austin Straus, a Jewish poet and graduate student in New York. Moody was a Civil Rights activist and author of Coming of Age in Mississippi.

Moody and Straus had one child, Sasha (sometimes spelled "Sascha"). They reportedly divorced in 1977. Straus had two marriages following the divorce. He died in 2017.

According to Moody, some in the black community reacted negatively to the news of her marriage to Straus, who was white. To the people who wondered why she did it, she said she was in love.
